Swords and Sandals 2 is a turn-based RPG fighting flash game that was developed by 3rd Sense and released on January 7, 2007.

Although Flash was discontinued on January 12 2021, Swords and Sandals 2 is still playable through BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint, the Newgrounds Player and is also available as part of the Swords and Sandals Classic Collection on Steam.

Gameplay[]

In Swords and Sandals 2, the player must first start by allocating stat points to various traits such as strength, agility and magika in order to build their character. From here they can also customise the appearance of their gladiator from a large variety of races, hairstyles and facial hair. Once the player has completed the character creation process, their character will wake up in a dungeon, where an executioner will escort them and the rest of the prisoners outside and pits them against each other for the entertainment of the crowd. This is where the player will encounter their first fight, which is made very easy due to the opponent being very weak and this fight essentially serves as a tutorial to the game.

Once the player wins this fight, they earn their freedom and are free to roam the local town, where they can enter the arena for another fight or spend their gold pieces in one of the shops. The shops available to the player are:

  • Weaponsmith: purchase a variety of both ranged and melee weapons.
  • Armoury: purchase armour for all parts of the body as well as shields.
  • Magic Shop: purchase a variety of magical elemental weapon effects that cause more damage.
  • Church: purchase potions that heal the player and restore stamina.

The player will not have much gold at the beginning of the game, and gold is earned through winning fights and tournaments in the arena. As the player levels up more, they are able to enter higher tournaments that feature harder bosses and reward more gold upon victory.

Controls[]
